As summer draws to a close, I have a question I have to ask you: what
are you doing here? If you're hanging around this website instead of
surfing or rock climbing or working on your tan, you might just be a
medieval history enthusiast like we are. If that's the case, there are
probably several things that interest you about the Middle Ages. And
I'd like to know what they are.
Do you prefer learning about the details of daily life to the
political histories of kings? Or do popes really light your candle? Is
it weaponry that fascinates you, or clothing? Do you yearn to
understand what life was like for a monk? or a knight? or a peasant?
Is there one famous person in particular who captivates you, or a
particular region and time frame? Maybe it's the glittering
illumination of manuscripts or the soaring arches of gothic
architecture. And who can resist a castle?

About Geoffrey Chaucer:
In addition to writing the most famous English poetry of his time,
Geoffrey Chaucer was in service to royalty and also acted as a
diplomat to Italy, France and Spain. He served in the military during
the Hundred Years' War, and at one point was captured by the French
and ransomed by
King
Edward III. Chaucer's comfortable government jobs afforded him the
opportunity to write. Inspired by the great Italian writers of the
century, he produced notable poetry that serve as a valuable window to
14th-century England..
